If you crave for world news on a daily basis, this one is for you, CNN International yesterday announced the release of their latest Qt-based Mobile app for Symbian^3 devices making it available for free globally (except in Japan) on Nokia’s Ovi Store.
The app is purpose-built and designed to provide a visually-driven news experience for Nokia users who demand accessibility and convenience, as well as passion for participating in the news via iReport, CNN’s user-generated news community. Apart from this, the app showcases important global news through text, video and photos and also enables users to watch live breaking news video. One can also share these articles through the apps integrated sharing functionality, directly onto Twitter, Facebook or by Email and SMS.
Let’s look a little closer at these and other features of the app as well as some screen-shots that speak for themselves:
For those of you that are iReport Journalists:
-The app provides a direct gateway to CNN’s user-generated news community, iReport.
-Lets users browse user-generated content; register, sign-in to their account or sign on as a guest to instantly upload photos and videos.
-Users can also browse iReport’s latest “international assignments,” asking the community to weigh in on various news stories.
Or if you just interested in the latest Headlines:
-You’ll find the app easy to navigate: Users can easily flick through news stories across categories including Top Stories, U.S., Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, Middle East, Business, Sport, Entertainment, Tech and Travel. -Also easy to consume: Each story features bulleted highlights above the full article, designed to satisfy mobile “snackers,” allowing them to easily scan through the latest stories.
Articles are easy to share: As I mentioned earlier, users can share stories via SMS, email, Twitter and Facebook directly from the CNN App.
-All articles easy to view: White text on black background provides excellent viewing experience
Then we have the videos, providing users with access to live, breaking news videos, as well as an extensive selection of on-demand video clips across many categories, including World, Most Popular, Sport, Business, U.S., Entertainment, Tech and CNN en EspaƱol.
Although the CNN app is currently only available for the Nokia E7 smartphone, with availability in the coming weeks for the Nokia N8, C7 and C6-01, I was able to install this same version as-is on the N8 and C6-01 as well (I would presume that it will work on the C7 too), enjoying all it’s features without any hiccups – the screen-shots above were actually taken on an N8, so if you want to try the app as is on yours, all you have to do is download it directly from the Nokia Ovi Store on line with your PC and install it onto your device connected via USB.
