Christmas is once again upon us, many will be traveling like my self and planning for a long road trip, to spend Xmas with loved ones and family, can become a nightmare especially when there are kids involved. Being a single parent makes road trips an adventure because I’m always having to find enough activities to keep my little 10 year old daughter, Vanessa occupied so that I can concentrate on my driving, portable PC, loads of games and DVDs have always been the order of the day during our previous trips and I’m sure many of you can relate to this!
But this could become something of the past – all that extra clutter in the car could now be replaced by one single device – the Nokia N8 Symbian^3 smartphone and here’s why: Nokia Ovi have launched quite an interesting competition during this festive season where you stand the chance of receiving one of many Nokia N8 devices on loan during this period and all you have to do is tell them a little story of how you would prepare for the holiday season using your Nokia phone, in a short blog post of two hundred words or a short 2 minute video by Monday the 13th of December 2010.
I have’t had the opertunity of any hands on with the Nokia N8 since it’s launch back in September, so I decided to enter and this is my short story as to how I will be using my Nokia N8 during our trip to Lisbon this Xmas, (that’s if Santa Ovi sends me one of course).
First – planning the quickest, shortest route – Malaga / Lisbon with Ovi Maps which will also provide me with weather conditions at our destination, never know if we need to pack some extra woollies 
Variety of game apps installed, should keep Vanessa occupied during the trip there and back, if she gets bored, there’s cartoons on YouTube or she can simply download games from Ovi Store. I’ll improvise with a couple of movies on my memory stick connected directly to the N8 and when it comes to music, I’ll just transmit from the N8 straight onto my car radio, maybe on 90.0 MHz.
Checking for local restaurants and places of interest on this trip won’t be a problem with the ‘Here and Now’ app and Social will take care of staying in touch with our friends on the social networks sharing the many pictures and videos we will be taking and editing on the device itself.
The ‘Situations’ app will allow for automation of some features, like going off line when I go to bed etc. With all this and the occassional calls, emails and messages, the N8 is indeed a must have for this holiday season.

Now for the good news from Nokia Ovi: If you are one of the fortunate ones to get the N8 on loan, you could possibly keep it, you know? How you ask? That’s easy because once you have your devices, you have the opportunity to show Nokia Ovi and all the Ovi fans, how you used the Nokia N8 with Ovi to help you over the holidays. You do that and Nokia will give the Nokia N8 as yours to keep as a New Year’s treat.
This is going to be a working holiday for me I see, loads of pictures, blogging and videos of course. Got my fingers crossed and hoping Santa Ovi decides to visit my house this Xmas – Here comes Santa Clause, here comes Santa…………………….
