Today is the annual United Nations’ International Day of Persons with Disabilities. This December 3rd event promotes a better understanding of disability issues with a focus on the rights of persons with disabilities. This is something really noteworthy as nearly one in five of the global population lives with some form of recognised disability, including those related to ageing.
The desire to communicate in a mobile world does not discriminate. There are an estimated 600 million people worldwide who have a recognised disability, in addition to others with needs for improved accessibility, whether in regards to vision, hearing, speech, mobility, cognition or age.
Nokia has a long history of transforming the freedom of wireless communications, and they are working to bring this wireless world to everyone. Nokia have a team of experts dedicated to developing internal product design standards, initiating research projects, and training employees worldwide for servicing customers with unique wireless communication needs.
For people with hearing difficulties, Nokia has developed the Nokia Wireless Loopset (LPS-5). In the video below, you will meet Katja Vis, a Finn who uses this inductive loop for a mobile phone every day, and Mikko Haho, a man from Nokia behind this solution. Watch what kind of difference the Nokia wireless loopset makes in everyday life.
The Wireless Loopset (LPS-5) can be found on the Nokia on-line store for those that want to purchase it, although a little expensive with a price tag of € 215.00, the device will reach new heights amongst the people with a hearing disability, facilitating their daily mobile communications.
For the people of Nokia, it all comes back to their mission of “connecting people.”
