You read it right folks! It seems that the LONG awaited release of Nokia’s N8 is once again being delayed and will not be hitting stores or pre-order client’s front doors as expected at the end of this month. This news has been circulating around the blogging world all afternoon, Engadget was the first to publish it and the same news has now appeared on a Nokia Support Discussion board on Nokia.co.uk.

Here is the content form what has been said to be a statement made by Nokia yesterday afternoon:

“The amount of preorders has exceeded our expectations and we are working hard to deliver the Nokia N8 to the market. In some markets, we had planned to start delivering the Nokia N8s to our pre-order customers by the end of September. To ensure a great user experience, we have decided to hold the shipments for a few weeks to do some final amends. We’re thrilled with the response that we’ve had to the Nokia N8 and assure everyone who’ve pre-ordered it already that it’ll be worth the wait! We expect consumers to get their Nokia N8s during October.”

For what it’s worth, Nokia mentioned at the Nokia World event last week that the N8 is seeing strong pre-order demand, the strongest ever for a Nokia device, so this latest news (IF TRUE) is likely not to go down well with many folk that are eagerly awaiting to get their hands on it and for others, it might even be just the impetus they needed to hold out for the upcoming E7, or even change over to another brand.

Let me remind you that the above news has yet to be confirmed by Nokia, at the time of publishing this post neither any confirmation or denial has been issued by Nokia – Finland. But stay tuned, we will keep you updated.

Nokia Conversations (The official Nokia Blog) have released an official statement this morning in response to the Nokia N8 delay stories on the WWW. Here is what it says:

There have been a few stories this morning about the N8 availability which we feel need clarification. As we have previously said, we still expect to start the shipments by the end of the third quarter. As with every global launch, when the device reaches the hand of the customer will vary by market and operator.

We have received a record number of online pre-orders for the Nokia N8. We had targeted our online pre-order customers to receive their N8s by the end of September. As it can take time from the beginning of shipment to arriving at their doorstep, in full transparency, we have advised our pre-order customers that they should expect their new Nokia N8 in October.

The latest news comes from Tarmo Virki, European technology correspondent for Reuters and based in HELSINKI, Finland. He says that a Nokia spokesman said this morning that the first Nokia N8 phones were still scheduled to leave factories by the end of September, but deliveries to consumers who had preordered the device would be delayed by a few weeks.

“In some markets, we had planned to start delivering the N8s to our pre-order customers by the end of September. To ensure a great user experience, we have decided to hold the shipments for a few weeks to do some final amends,” the company said in a statement, adding that the N8s would reach consumers in October.

Nokia announced the delay only a few days after the September 15 closure of its showcase event of the year, Nokia World.

“This is embarrassing,” said John Strand, chief executive of Danish telecoms consultancy Strand Consult.

The N8 smartphone, first to use Nokia’s new Symbian software, was originally scheduled to reach consumers in June.

In April, Nokia warned that the software renewal would take longer than it had expected due to quality problems and said that the N8 would reach consumers by the end of September.

The weak smartphone offering and problems with software were seen as the main reasons for Nokia to replace its chief executive.

Stephen Elop, from Microsoft, started at his job as Nokia’s chief executive this morning.

Well, well………. seems that the mystery continues. What do you think?
