The ultimate diving accessory for the Nokia N8 – tested and heading to the Arabian Gulf soon

Couple of days ago, I uploaded a video onto Nokia-News.com’s official YouTube channel, which I had made a few weeks ago with my Nokia N8. The film was a simple little test to verify the quality of a video filmed underwater with the N8 device inside a water proof casing which I had received from the folks over at WOMWorldNokia last year. Although the casing is not commercially available (YET), it’s a great robust accessory to have, if you’re a diving enthusiast like myself . The 3mm thick casing is made of clear plastic with black silicon padding in the interior which allows for a sturdy fit of your Nokia device.

There are two downsides to this accessory though. The first is that you will have to start the filming on your device before you seal the casing as there is no external feature on the casing allowing you to start or pause/stop the filming process – so an extended memory of say 32GB MicroSD, in most Nokia devices, would be good to allow a large video file to be created and stored . You can then edit the film on your device or PC later on. The second is taking pictures – unless you use a time lapse app like Fast Motion to take random pictures, there is no way to do it manually, but then again videos are always better than still pictures I always say :)

Here is what the accessory looks like: Tested the C6-01 and E7-00 and they also fit in the casing and by the measurements, the C7 / Astound should also be able to fit comfortably inside.

The accessory was part of the kit I had received for the #N8productions Competion, but due to weather conditions here in Spain not being favourable I was unable to film the video I had wanted to submit to the N8Productions. A dream shattered didn’t deter me from trying again and came up with a great idea for the recent Nokia Shorts – a documentary on the world’s biggest aquarium at the Atlantis Palm Hotel in Dubai – the 11.5 million litre Ambassador Lagoon, showcasing the ancient ruins and species of the Arabian Gulf to feeding the rays by hand – the ultimate diving experience. I contacted the hotel to obtain permission to conduct the filming underwater with the Nokia N8, but unfortunately the permission came to late and was unable to submit my entry before the deadline, I just couldn’t risk submitting the pitch without permission first from the Hotel Management.

So that is twice now that I have been unable to take the N8 and produce an exciting Nokia Short, but I am not giving up on my last idea – and I’m hopeful that I will be able to find a Sponsor soon to take the N8 to Dubai and film what I believe will become a Nokia Masterpiece – I am determined and won’t give up :)

For those of you that missed the test video, here it is again:

Now folks, PLEASE don’t attempt to immerse your Nokia device underwater to do this, without a water proof casing – it will damage your Nokia device for sure.
