A couple of weeks ago, I received the new Nokia BH-905i bluetooth stereo headset from our friends over at WOMWorldNokia to review. Must admit that I was a little skeptical at first and was hesitant to review this particular headset, I have had a number of Bluetooth headsets in my time and have been let down on a number of occasions and reverted to wired headsets each time. So I finally gave in and agreed to review the headset and have been fortunate to have it longer than I was expecting.
When I opened the DHL package containing the Nokia Bluetooth stereo headset BH-905, a carrying case, an audio cable with 4 adapters: airplane, 2.5mm, 3.5mm and 6.3mm and a travel charger, on its arrival at my office, I was especially surprised with the weight of the headset, not as heavy as I thought it would be. It has a traditional headphone design with a sturdy black soft leather padded band on top and thick, soft ear pads that I came to experience do a reasonably good job of blocking our surrounding noise. The chrome earpieces have most of their controls on the right ear piece. The multi-function key turns the headset on/off, used for pairing and answer as well as end a phone call, and shares space with track rewind and forward controls on the left and right and the music play/pause key on the bottom. The volume control and wired cable plug are on the side of the right ear piece and the Active Noise Cancelling button and the charging port on the side of the left ear piece. The ANC LED indicator light is on the bottom of the right earpiece next to the wired cable plug. When placing the headset on my head found it to be quite comfortable, unlike some you find out there.
The headset sports Bluetooth v2.1 + EDR connectivity and supports both mono headset and hands free profiles and stereo A2DP and AVRCP. Allows multi-pairing and can work with 2 Bluetooth devices simultaneously. My tests were done using my Nokia C7, 5800XM and my Acer PC and worked smoothly on all. Even connected it to my big-screen TV with the 6.3mm home stereo adapter that comes in the box. The range of the Bluetooth signal between devices is also fair – got aprox 10 feet before I started to experience interference.
The Active Noise Cancelling feature with the 8-mic noise cancelling set works wonders, on one of my trips I took to the local shopping centers I turned the feature on and WOW, it really works, I do recommend though that you turn off the feature if you dont need it as it does tend to drain your battery a lot quicker, and talking about battery, I got an average of 18 hours of talk and music listening time between charges. The audio quality when listening to music is outstanding – the music tracks sounded full with clear channel separation, and tracks featuring strong bass really came out.
In conclusion, I must say that the Nokia BH-905 has the look of high-end stereo headphones and the quality of the sound is outstanding. Loved the great collection of adapters for the audio cable and it was extremely easy to pair not to mention the battery performance. Never got to test the headset with my PC though, not one for headphones on a PC except for Skype calls. A little steep in price, around 240 Euros, so I will wait a while and hope it comes down, because this headset has changed my opinion of Bluetooth headsets and could very much convert me to wireless once again.
